Oh to be one of you
My ruffled feathered friends
Down softy floating on the breeze
As you make your way to the pecking ground
^^^
To see the beauty around us .... not many take the time anymore.
Compassionate hands
Battered by time
Softened with love
Feeding you simply because they can
^^^
You have created wonderful imagery here Jenn.
To grow old yet still feel important. Even if it something as little as feeding birds. Makes one feel like they still belong somewhere.
Children laugh in the distance
True sounds of joy
My children left long ago
Though they visit now and then
^^^
You can feel the joy yet a hint of sadness and longing in this stanza.
I miss watching them grow
Chasing mischief
Offering love freely
Simply because they can
^^^
I like the ending line in this stanza. I think it has much more meaning once one really looks between the lines. His/her children are all grown up ... and can still chase mischief and love freely ... they have years ahead of them. Something the person in this poem has few of left.
My legs were like that once
Strong and fast
Steady and sure
Running simply because they could
^^^
Great ending. I think this poem holds a great message. Live life to it's fullest ...
