The word still hangs
Lifeless
Void of any color
Shape or substance
Just an echo
A passing thought
as you turn away
Did I not love you strong enough
Long enough
Did you doubt sincerity
For I know those words
I said them over and over
I love you
But still
As you walk away
A wisp of hair
on your collar
A wrenching reminder
And as the distance
grows between us, I wait
Hoping
Praying
That you care enough to turn
To see me one more time
See my tears
That they may move you
Pull you back to me
But you have walked so far
Not once turning around
Not seeing these tears
Unmoved
Now...
Not even an echo of your words
It truly is...
The word still hangs
Lifeless
Void of any color
Shape or substance
Just an echo
A passing thought
as you turn away

Jeannie I like the changes you've made here.
And I love that you left the first 2 lines as they were .... giving the reader much to think bout.
Did I not love you strong enough
Long enough
Did you doubt sincerity
For I know those words
I said them over and over
I love you
^^^
We ask ourselves these questions over and over ... and wonder why love just wasn't enough. I feel the sadness here ...
But still
As you walk away
A wisp of hair
on your collar
A wrenching reminder
^^^
A shoulder turned ... makes the blood run coldly through our veins. And the reality that we are left alone ... standing holding just memories.
And as the distance
grows between us, I wait
Hoping
Praying
That you care enough to turn
To see me one more time
See my tears
That they may move you
Pull you back to me
^^^
And when words fail ... we hold onto the hopes that somehow they will see the pain etched on our face. Gawd how I knew this feeling all to well. The deepest pain one can imagine ...
But you have walked so far
Not once turning around
Not seeing these tears
Unmoved
Now...
Not even an echo of your words
It truly is...
Goodbye

Such a sad ending !
Jeannie there is so much emotion in this piece. If one has lived this ... they know how it tears at your heart. Shreds you life into pieces and leaves you alone ... wondering ... what went wrong.
I think so many can relate to this piece Auntie.
Touching read !!!!!!
