Ode to a flat piece of metal

I look up from my book and see it,
If I didn’t I’d likely have a fit,
My flat piece of metal so silver and cold,
That I got because I was bold,
It is flat as several pieces of paper,
And shiny like a piece of aluminum foil that in no way resembles the metal itself,
I loved my flat piece of metal,
Until I found a rose petal.
