Fly

by brokenmind   Mar 19, 2009

Maybe he wanted to fly one time?
His life becoming increasingly painful
He seems to have lost control
The days are long the nights are dark
No escaping from the oppressing thoughts
Surrounded by people, yet so alone
From one place to another, he has no home
Desperate to love but there are no takers
He has fought, but now he's battle weary.

Maybe he wanted to fly one time?
To be free from the pain
To flee from the chaos
To escape the monotony of life
To rid himself of those heavy thoughts
To expel the loneliness
To finally have a place called home
To liberate the caged love inside
To end the battle once and for all.

Maybe he wanted to fly one time?
To take that final leap
As he says goodbye to this alien world
He doesn't shed a tear, no fear.
He knows it's his time, his chance at freedom
The cold railings spark up desire inside
The water below creates a smile
With a quick look behind at the world he's escaping
He jumps

I must admit I didn't expect the meaning of the poem to be suicide. I had a feeling you weren't going to literally deal with flying, but the twist was refreshing. In my poetry I enjoy making the reader think one thing and then switching it to be something they didn't expect. Also the flow seemed impeccable. I didn't have to stop or repeat any lines that I read. Definately a good job. 5/5 for sure. I'm looking forward to reading your other material.
