King Leo

by Ingrid   Mar 19, 2009

King Leo

On the vast Savannas
lives a proud feline king
with golden fur and mane
That makes his struts swing

He rules the African land
as relaxed as can be
Sleeping most of the day
underneath the acacia tree

Ferocious killer if need be
letting the girls do the work
Only waking up for dinner
while he yawns and lurks

Sneaking up on his victims
Then strangling them to death
Shocking his prey beyond belief
As they take their final breath

Such a king, strong, secure
compares to none but man
Lying there so full of himself
The ruler of his land

The ladies stroll by him
Hoping for a glance
In all his arrogant splendor
Pretends they have no chance

The beauty of one lioness
breaks down his firm facade
She barely even looks at him
As through the brush she trods

He follows her, begs and pleads
melts within her sight
Defeated, but happy with his queen
the lion sleeps tonight!

A good poem Ingrid, the Lion in all his spledour with his harem of females around him all wanting to bear his children. An unusual theme but very welcome. As I read it, I was transported to the plains in Africa, and found myself watching this magnificent beast survey his Kingdom!
    A good write Ingrid!

I like the comparison to men? I may have taken it wrong, but thats what i got. Lazy and arrogant. Haha.
