I Will Be There

by Ingrid   Mar 21, 2009

The road ahead can be dark at times, friend
Doubts and fears like demons in your mind
and although there is hope on the horizon
thoughts can clog the brain, make you blind

I will be there, when all else falls apart
To hold your hand and easy your pains
To let your head rest upon my shoulder
and be a steady rock, to keep you sane

Although there may have been times, love
we fought like hell and accusations flew
Those silly battles only made us grow closer
cause underneath the surface affection grew

Count on me to be there always to give you
my loving care and support unconditionally
As I know that is what you'll give in return,
a bond in which we will rejoice eternally

I know you're not perfect and neither am I
But that is how us, mortals are meant to be
And to love each other in spite of all that
Is what true friendship is all about to me

Ingrid, a beautiful thought out piece about friendship and what it should be like. There's not many of these kinds of friendships about nowadays because usually if we fight that's it so it good to see you sticking by each other.

The road ahead can be dark at times, friend
Doubts and fears like demons in your mind
and although there is hope on the horizon
thoughts can clog the brain, make you blind
    ^^
This opening stanza is brilliant. It shows that yes, above all else if you have hope it'll help. Dark thoughts and other things can clog up the brain and make it hard to realise what is actually in front of us especially when a good thing.

I will be there, when all else falls apart
To hold your hand and easy your pains
To let your head rest upon my shoulder
and be a steady rock, to keep you sane
    ^^
Another beautiful stanza. Showing you'll be there through thick and thin for this person. You'll pick them up when their down and leg them have your shoulder to cry on, keeping them sane. I like this part because not a lot of people are like this nowadays usually it's not I'll scratch your back you scratch mine it's all for yourself.

Although there may have been times, love
we fought like hell and accusations flew
Those silly battles only made us grow closer
cause underneath the surface affection grew
    ^^
Yes, you might fight and throw silly accusations about buy what matters is through it all you stood stronger together and grew within your friendship.

Count on me to be there always to give you
my loving care and support unconditionally
As I know that is what you'll give in return,
a bond in which we will rejoice eternally
    ^^
This is nice to see. Two people who will show care and love for one another because as I've said it doesn't happen often but when it does it's magical.

I know you're not perfect and neither am I
But that is how us, mortals are meant to be
And to love each other in spite of all that
Is what true friendship is all about to me
    ^^
A lovely ending to a brilliant piece because you are acknowledging that you nor her/him are perfect but that nobody is and despite your imperfections you'll grow even stronger as friends.

All in all good write, Em

    Hello Ingrid,

I hope you are well. A poem about friendship. Some people regarding friends like fashion: you can only be seen with the right friends on. These types of 'fair weather' friends don't have the qualities that this poem speaks of.
Like, unconditional love, care and support. I mean this is what you need when the rain is falling and there isn't a brolley on sight. Along comes a friend and takes off their coat and gives it freely to you. And when cross words are spoken and plates are thrown at doors; a friend is there to hold you until the tears stop and a smile returns.
Friendship is best when it's true.

Thank you Ingrid for being a true friend to do many people.

    Take care,

    Michael

I like this poem Ingrid, it's what a true friend should be, put into a rhyming poem.

I liked the last verse especially :

'I know you're not perfect and neither am I
But that is how us, mortals are meant to be
And to love each other in spite of all that
Is what true friendship is all about to me'

    Well put friend!

Not often someone offer a friendship of this calibre and, you've captured that quite vividly, in this wonderful and well penned piece.
I can attest to each word of every stanza for this kind of friendship you have shown me from day one on this site.
I'm honored to be called a friend by you.
    an enjoyable read.

I think it would be perfect if you added some punctuation, but I still think that it's a pretty magnificent poem :D
    Love it.
