Home Alone?

by EclipsesChick   Mar 25, 2009

She heard the scream across the hall while climbing into bed. She stopped, confused, while her blood infused, did she hear it in her head? Heart pounding in her veins she turned the covers down, while thoughts of the scream she thought she heard made her slightly frown.

A dreamy sigh and eyes closed tight, she settled down for sleep. Meanwhile, she remembered the random to-do-list tomorrow she might upkeep. A cry of murder shrill and loud and now she jumps awake. Heart pounding in her ears, deep breaths she quickly takes.

She stumbled to the light switch located on the wall, while her thoughts wandered rampant; did it come from across the hall? Flicking the switch, light floods the room, almost in mirror to the flood in her heart as it quickly fills with doom.

Another scream so strident, deafening with its shrill. She reaches for her bathrobe first to protect against the chill. Shaking, her hand goes for the shelf beside her bed, while possible thoughts of blood and murder quickly fill her head.

Cool steel hits her palm and she nervously grips the gun. I hope I am not too late, she thinks as she breaks into a run. The screams are coming faster now in competition to her breath. Please God, she prays, do not let this end in death.

A left bound out the room and quickly down the stairs. The screams came from her sisters room in which the house they shared. Sweat was pouring off her brow and falling to the floor. One, two, three steps further and she makes it to the door.

With a shuddering heave she lifts her hand and brings it to the knob. The adrenaline is at its peak and her whole body throbs. The screams increase in pitch and sound and make her want to scream. Still inside her heart and mind she wished this was a dream.

With a quick lurch she pushes her shoulder sharply against the door. The wood gives in too easily and she crashes to the floor. The screams stop upon the sound and the air grows still and stale. She lies there on the carpeted floor and hopes her heart has not failed.

As the dust settles and the silence builds around her like a fog, she tries to make a noise but somewhere there is a clog. Hesitantly she pushes herself up onto her knees, idly wondering what became of the screams.

She comes to her feet and looks around for a source of life or sound. There did not seem to be anything in the room that had a want to be found. Adreniline coming down, she finds herself back to the door. She takes a sudden step, to find herself back on the floor.

Ooowww, is the first thought that races through her mind. Getting back off of the floor she found her feet were in a bind. Had someone gone so far as to tie her up that fast? Did she still have time to save herself, or was this it at last?

Now her voice had found its song and erupted in a scream. She half expected it to wake her up, that this was all a dream. -What the hell is wrong with you?- says a voice with an annoyed slant. She tries to find who spoke the words, but in the dark she can-t.

A light suddenly blinds her as a snap sound fills the room. Her sisters sitting on her bed, giving her a look of doom. -Why did you unplug my tv? It is monster movie night! And why are you lying there screaming? You are giving me a fright!-

Back in her room, she lays her sweat-covered brow down upon her pillow. She tries her best to forget all the things that happened down below. Her sister had chewed her out for everything she had done: For making noise, for breaking in, and for waving around a gun.

Great write, very suspenseful at first with good vivid descriptions that make the reader captivated and entranced. Rhyming was excellent and I loved how you set the reader up for something horrible and bad, but the ending was hilarious, absolutely perfect! Nice job, this was such a joy to read, keep up the awesome work!
5/5 from me, take care and keep writing forever..

God Bless You And Your Family!
