Glass Baby

by brie kelly wise   Mar 27, 2009

Behind a hostile, black mask
Hides a girl waiting for the storm to pass
And though this girl likes to fly
Sometimes she seems to get too high
And when she plants herself on the ground
A moment comes when she looks around
She sees these people standing tall
If she touched them, she would fall
They are strong, she is subtle
And as they walk, she just huddles
She sees herself in a mirror one day
Wondering what it was she had to change
Between you and I, this girl is strange
She's the only one who lets her loose ends hang
Like a glass baby, the sky is a blanket above
To where she cannot reach when push comes to shove
Who knows where this girl has gone this time
Or where she'll be in a matter of time
With plastic eyes, she only sees
What everyone else thinks she should be
With golden hair, she only smiles
When no one is around for miles and miles
Here she stands, fumbling off the bluff
Clawing at the fraying edge for love
While an assembly line of endless existence
Moves around while her gravity is crumbling in the distance
The seasons come and go like robots
Though she is inside, telling them to stop
They're beautiful, and so they've been
But she will never be one of them
The girl lays down terrified
That tomorrow she will still be tongue tied
She closes her eyes and begs for peace
Though it seems this void will never cease
As the days and nights dance free
There will always be a star unseen
This little girl will not look up
She can't even handle herself long enough
For these precious flames are burning wild now
As she lost her strength to climb on out
I will always hate this girl I see
For it seems to be she will always be me
I am tossed and thrown like a little glass baby
Standing naked for the world to see
