Cycles (a science project)

by Noir Fleur   Mar 29, 2009

Water flows over the smooth rocks,
swirling down and around the river bend.
Over and under fallen-down trees it goes,
with all the time in the word to spend.

As it nears the shimmering patch of sun,
a golden hue glimmers across the surface.
But beautiful as the sun rays may be,
they still serve and important purpose.

The flowing water spills out into a lake,
where it pools into one solitary mass.
At once the sun shines even brighter,
drying the dew laying on the grass.

Soon enough, the sun turned to heat
that slowly evaporated the cool water.
Up into the sky the H2O traveled
until it was released well into later.

High above in the troposphere,
the water became part of a cloud.
Next thing came a flash of lightning
and thunder, rumbling and loud.

Raindrops came pouring on down
soaking the ground below the sky.
Winds swept across the soggy hills
and sent leaves up to swirl about and fly.

Soon enough the once-pounding rain
subsided to barely a drizzle
as well as the rumbling thunder
dying down to an echoing fizzle.

The damp grass was heavy with drops
of the rain that fell without end
and the river that used to be so calm
was rushing and splashing over the bend.

As time went on, the flora dried up
and the river level finally dropped below.
Then without warning, the sun came out
with blazing hot rays to show.

So as the water flowed over the rocks and
swirled down and around the river bend,
it proved that, for the rest of eternity,
its cycle will ever come to an end.
