The Sweetest Goodbye

by Skoolboy13   Mar 31, 2009

The drive to the airport
couldn't have turned out any worse
we argued about something I've known for weeks
yet it all erupted today,
she's leaving this town for good
not even for me
nor the feelings felt and groomed together
there still wasn't a reason to stay.

it seems as if closure will never be reached
neither one of us has the answer
nor the right combination of words to speak
so we trade blank stares and anger instead,
these last moments we should cherish
these final seconds should be savored
but no emotions are spared in the heat of battle
though we didn't mean anything we said.

the thunder cracks the sky
and the rain begins to pour
with a far off look on my face
I wish the thunder would roar again
just so I wouldn't hear you her close the door,
a part of me wants to run after her
the remainder chooses to forget
all the feelings that once were shared
and the deep heart sensation longing for more.

as I pull away from the entrance
occasional glances in the rear view show
only rain drops devouring her silhouette
a picture to store in memory's file,
the further I drive away
the heavier my heart become
it's starting to freeze already
but my face
it forms a smile.

at the airport,
she hands the receptionist the ticket
flashes the cards and identification
then she's gently asked aside,
with a grin.
she's handed an white envelope
along with a rose and matching ticket
as for the letter
there was a written note inside,
it read
"I love you more than love itself
these feeling I can not hide nor divided
to think I'd just let you go
to leave and not say goodbye
even after the way you cried
my angel, I 'll never allow that to happen
because in you is where my heart resides"
the letter continues to say
"please take a seat and I'll soon return
to start the life we both wanted
a need to leave the games behind,
now in your bag
in your purse there lies a box
that should hold a ring inside,
if you'd be so kind
as to look at the behind you
in the window
there stands a man
wanting,
hoping,
wishing,
that you'll agree to be his bride.....
