Murder

by Jenn   Apr 1, 2009

Across the hall you hear the screams,
Confused and dazed, lost in a dream.
A little girl you cannot help,
As hopelessly she takes the belt.
Every 'crack,' you bite your lip,
close your eyes and hug your hips.
A broken arm, a bruised eye,
in the morning, she'll have her lie.
As you sit in your room and cry,
Begging the gods to answer why.
Why they brought her so much pain,
Why her tears fall down like rain.
Why you can't run down that hall,
To catch her every time she falls.
To be the one instead of her,
To be the one inside the hurse.
To be the one to shed some light,
To be the one to stop this fight.
To throw away his booze,
To make him the one to lose.
Another scream to drown your thoughts,
A leather belt he had just bought.
A sudden crash
Silence at last.
Your tears stop with your air,
You realize no sound is there.
Heavy footsteps down the hall,
But no daughter's lonely, painful call.
A leap from the bed, the coast is clear,
Down the hall to hold her near.
A gruesome sight to stop you dead,
A bloody sight, a mangled head.
Tonight there's only tears,
For an angel of 6 years.
Tonight an angel got her wings,
From her drunken father, an abusive thing.
You hold her close and pray for life,
This has now become your living strife.
He returned more silently that the dead,
A gunshot to your head.
He cries a sorrowed tear,
As he holds the gun up to his ear.
A final bang the world never heard,
but in the morning, rang the song of a bird.
