What I Wish for

The slam of car doors breaks the silence
for one instant alone.
It returns.
Pure, deafening silence.
Your eyes meet mine.
Staring intensely.
I cannot look away.
Drawn to you, am I.
Gliding slowly forwards.
Your eyes bore more deeply into my own.
A slight jump of my heart.
Startled.
Unrealized,
was the closing distance between us.
Your arms around my waist.
My arms around your neck.
You pull me tightly to you.
My head against your shoulder.
Never wanting to let go.
Our grips.
They loosen,
but do not yet let go.
Our gaze lock once again.
But for only a moment.
For there is the look.
My eyes dart swiftly between yours.
Back and forth.
Back and forth.
Before my eyelids slowly close.
I rise slowly onto my toes.
You face draws closer to mine.
So softly they meet.
Your lips and mine.
Intertwining us in an enchantment.
That seemed to last a lifetime.
A few short seconds that stretched an hour.
But still not long enough.
Before apart we grew.
You hands sliding down my arms.
Taking my hands in yours.
Letting one fall.
Entwining your fingers in the other.
You lead the way.

Warm and toasty we sit.
There before the fire.
Those glowing embers all that remains.
Slowly throwing us into darkness.
Although not for long.
For a faint glow has begun.
On the far off horizon.
Numb we have grown.
So long we have sat.
Dry are our mouths.
For so many words have been spoken.
Heavy they grown.
Our fighting eyelids.
Warding off sleep.
For we do not want to sleep,
"For fear of waking
to find this was but a dream".
And reality without you,
is the most dreaded nightmare.
But the battle is lost.
As my eyelids fall in defeat.
Yet a prize I win.
For a upon your chest
my head rests as I sleep.
