Step Stone Father

Step Stone Father

Separation, divorce
Star child split in two hearts.
Yearning for joining yet
Healing in two halves;
Orbiting two parents
In Mutual Opposition.

I catch this falling star
When her need for consolation
Blows into my arms;
And though I'm cindered
By her searing entry,
Blamed for the fall itself,
Yet I cushion her for the impact.

The star falls further when dad,
Exploring the space of his new freedom,
Is trapped in orbit round some Ganymede,
Drunken thrill giver - child forgotten.

I watch, see the dimming of her light,
And act: "Man, your child is lost to you,
If you don't reclaim her now."
I watch the rekindling: "He's come back for Me!"

She's wreathed in attention long deprived.
Still, she's gone,
Leaving only ashy footprints
on the back of my devotion;
Taking no knowledge of
How I got her back her father.
