Kay this is so beautiful and sad...it reminded me of some graves that I once saw in Virginia , very old and forgotten, it made you wonder what that persons life had been like...very thought provoking, excellent!

    Kay
you did a wonderful job on the club image contest. The imagery is awesome.

No salt filled tears do fall
    Only leaves that seldom shed
    No flowers offer memories
    For soil the only bed

How sad and lonely is the grave that stands alone.

    A lonely chiseled marker
    with dates difficult to view
    A brother, son and soldier
    is the only remaining clue

The tombstones of the centuries that mark that one time this person lived breathed and loved.

    No widow lain beside him
To profess a life was shared
    No other graves surround it
    Like no-one ever cared

So many young men lose their lives before thay even have tiime to live.

    In pine bark shadows
    from a north-winds brace
    Eras that are by gone
No name was left to trace

This ending is perfect and brings a tear to the eye.
    Excellent job!
    Love Cindy

I often wonder what the stories are when visiting a cemetary. Men, women, children, who were they in life. Well done.

Poignant but resisting the temptation to fall into sentimentality. Rich in imagery but thought provoking, well done.

Wonderful write; the apparent lonliness is so evident and the tree as a silent backdrop adds to the melancholy.

    good luck and peace

Every word here was has intense has the first. This poem was very picky and without waste, the words painting a brillant picture for all to see. It is flawless in my opinion. The thoughts or lost loved one hold fast to my mind, and i kept thinking, is this his future? to be a lonly grave standing next to an acient tree?
