Grades and poetry

by defined by her   May 5, 2009

So what.
so what if i dont use the right grammer,
so what if i dont use the right puctuation;
so what if my words are not in the right context
it doesnt matter
nothing matters when poetry is around
comma rule. dont need it
semi-colons are not the important things
the 90s can be worse than the 70s
grades dont matter
the only thing that matters is what comes from the heart
not the little "oh your punctuation isnt right"
there is no rubric for poetry
no grade
no limit
no instructions
its what flows from the deep vains in you
and pours out lyrics, phrases, rhymes, rhtyhm
there is no "well i have to put it in iambic pentametor"
it doesnt matter if you lose points in the eyes of the teacher
so what if you get a B in the grading system
atleast you know that your soul is being poured out
and your not just trying to win an A
grades are not good enough for poetry
you cannot grade a persons soul
you cant grade what flows from the heart
you cant grade music
notes arnt the key point in music
its not the lick you put together
its the lyrics
its the deeper meaning behind them
its the love, hatred, depression, happiness
being expressed through words
now tell me
can you give a poem an A
for following the rubric or can you give them an F
because doing it for the grade is almost as bad as not doing it at all
if your going to write
no wait if your going to perform poetry
there should be no grade
i know that if i turned this poem in id get an F in the gradebook
cause i didnt capitalize proper nouns
didnt have any commas in the right places
have no punctuation
but does that really matter
to me it really doesnt
so go ahead and give me a F
i know that in my heart
this poem is gold
thank you
