Oh how they laughed

by Grant Gilbert AKA Slash   May 5, 2009

Oh how they laughed

Amber light is beating down
Blood drips from His thorny crown
Giant cross has forced His knee
People stare, but is this a man they see?

Fools stand and jeer as rocks are cast
They beat Him first, then let Him pass
Flailed and flogged till His bones did show
They wailed and cried "we didn't know"

They smashed spikes through His hands and feet
What fun they had, when they had Him beat
He cried out to His Father to forgive these men
Oh, how they laughed at His confusion then

He asked for water but they gave Him wine
Sour and foul but He could not decline
Later that day when the thunderheads loomed
He breathed his last our Christ was doomed?

Do you still cast stones and crack the whip?
Will you give the cup when asked for a sip?
You might say, "what have we done?"
You cannot say "we didn't know, about the Son"

Are your hands clean, or as stained as mine?
What will you do, with your remaining time?
I struggle and fight with my mind each day
Will I win the fight or will I have to pay?

I feel this far surpassed my poem. You were able to drive home the message I was trying to convey in a stronger usage of words.
    Impressive and powerful

I really don't think any of our hand is clean. I really don't think our mind is pure either. So if you a believer then believe it... we have to pay. Or we are paying actually! Problem is we keep doing same mistakes, same cruelties, though we read Bible or any other religious book from our childhood. Everyday we pray to Him with our dry prayers, for our greed. And we believe He will forgive us even we have doing sins after sins.
One Jesus Christ showed the way... but need millions of Christ to make this world better perhaps. Because we the human never follow him practically.
Good poem. Imagery is lovely. Your depiction of crucifixion is very intense. Worth reading.
