Still I stand

Here I stand surrounded
By the words I cannot say
This sanity battle never falters
Dragging on day by day

Three steps forward, one step back
I push on evading death
I earn each step I take
I'm fighting for every breath

Two steps forward, one step back
Still keeping a step ahead
Can't relax, can't slow down
I can sleep when I'm dead

One step forward, three steps back
I will never accept defeat
But it seems that this demon known as life
Will always have me beat

One step forward... and I stumble
And to my knees I collapse
Excruciating pain washes over me
As time continues to elapse

This gruesome smile on my face
Is my pains only disguise
Just as reality starts to fade
To my feet I begin to rise

I may feel as if I'm drowning
But I'm still standing on dry land
I fight for every step and breath
And somehow still I stand
