He Loved the Prom Queen

Deeply, entrancingly in love they were
and everyone thought they'd make it for sure
but the problem arises and no one could see
the day that prom king and prom queen died away

the prom queen was flirty
couldn't they tell?
the way she looked at the track star
it was trouble that's for sure

the prom king was quiet
depressed even more
he no longer loved the prom queen
in the same way he once did

the prom queen looked fondly at her beloved prom king
and wondered if he knew about her lover, the track star
but he seemed in his own world, if only she knew
how he was silently dying, not saying a word

the prom queen decided to take a night with the star
alone in her house, they decided to go far
and as he arrived she felt a slight twinge of guilt
but she shoved the prom king away, deciding to take the star

the prom king decided he had to tell her
he was madly in love with her, he wanted to marry her
as he knocked on the door and entered the house
he saw her with the track star, clothes thrown on the floor

he ran out the door and back to his house
tears staining his face as he reaches for the rope
he left her a letter with the ring right inside
and hung himself soundly, letter gripped tight in his hand

the prom queen cried silently at the funeral alone
ring grasped in her hand, listening to what the letter had to say
and as the priest read the letter, and it came to the end,
he looked out at her and read the last words...

"I love you my prom queen, you just tore me apart..."
