Peace of Mind

by Ignoris   May 9, 2009

Tonight I'll go to sleep
And maybe I'll close my eyes
But either way, oh anyway, I won't be counting sheep
'Cause I've got circles on my mind

Tonight I'll hope for more
And maybe I'll find something new
But you and I just don't apply to worlds outside this door
So what am I to do?

Tonight I'll scream and yell
And maybe one of them will hear my voice
But then again, I wonder when they'd hear enough to tell
That this is not my choice

Tonight I'll disappear
To shades of black and white
But help me find, some peace of mind, that you all are really here
And all will be alright

Tonight I'll go to sleep
And maybe I'll close my eyes

    "Tonight I'll go to sleep
And maybe I'll close my eyes"

It's amazing what you can do with two lines of words. These last lines are so powerful I'm not sure if it was intentional in the way I'm about describe it as but I love it all the same.

Two things: the first is how people lucid dream. The ability to dream and have control over the amount of awareness within dreams is like building a city from the ground up every single night when you fall asleep. Creative freedom is at your disposal unlike anything else. More powerful then free will, bc we are talking about the unconscious thoughts and ideas coming to life in our dreams and exerting control over that.

The second thing that ties how powerful the last line to this idea you are flirting with is the title of Mazzy Star album called, Tonight that I might see. We are constantly trying to build a city of love, of pain, even happiness when we lucid dream. We recreate moments from important memories we wish we could relive or do better. We exert change in the things we really can't change in life in our lucid dreams. The last stanza is so powerful bc it reminds us that we can build the city again and again in our dreams, but that city means nothing if we don't do it elsewhere than just the dreamworld. And when you say maybe I'll finally close my eyes, it's a mature statement that it's time to grow. To exert these wonderful and extraordinary effort to make our lives better not just in the dreamworld but in the waking world too. When you have accomplished what you have set out to do from your waking dreams, you have this peace of mind. Amazing.

Whether you meant it that way or not, it's beautiful and thank you.
