Reality.

I find myself sitting, re-reading all that I wrote
Despising every word I so thoughtfully placed
They were all lies, Can't you see?
It was never as perfect as I depicted it to be.

We fought over and over, screaming words, unforgivable.
Drunken kisses we stole, intoxicating us further
Lying to ourselves, our hearts pretending
Not showing us this would always be ending

And being in love is like wearing rose - coloured glasses
We never had it good, never got close to perfection
Trying to be everything we could never dream
Building expectations, making us scream

Because it was never the way I remembered
Always forgetting the bad, replacing with good
Happiness a feeling we never found
Reaching so high but falling to the ground

We had good times, it's true, when I held you hand
And you smiled like I was the only one
In the back of my mind knowing it's not true
And we start these relationships without a clue
