Once More

by BEHROZE K PATEL   May 12, 2009

He walked away
With my heart
Into the lost pages
Of my past...

Years flew by,
And I carved
An existence
Without him or it

Until one day
An old letter fell out a book
And reacquainted me
With my heart again

All soft and vulnerable
It had a faint slow beat
Scared me silly
Oh! Yes it did

For who was this stranger
Barely managing to exist
In the lost marshland
Of suppressed memories

As eyes read the words
Written on yellowed brittle paper
Past split itself on to the present
And I died once more

Confused and crowed
With painful memories
I hide the letter back in the book
Hoping to forget all about it

But it wasn't to be
And I live once more
With an aching heart
That longs for my missing soul.
