Life and Death

by Ray Smallshaw   May 12, 2009

A thousand flies hang on to my toilet window mosquito mesh,

Recently birthed after a thunderous rain storm,

Its after chill being replaced by a humid heat incubating them to life,

Attracted by my toilet light beaconing them to congregate there on the outside,

Only for them to be killed by a Tesco fly exterminator spray,

I watch their lives dispelled then form a pile of bodies below,

Invoking in my mind a fly holocaust.
