Jaynie's Got A Gun

by StandStill   May 14, 2009

Jaynie was a pretty thing
with yellow ribbons in her hair.
She laughed and dance and sang
and hadn't a single care.

Jaynie was a happy girl,
she rode her bike a lot.
She knew every flower's scientific name
and counted lady bug spots.

Jaynie was like sunshine
on a cold December day.
She always broke the clouds up
and with her, the children played.

Jaynie was a happy girl
until her mother died.
Then she stopped chasing rainbows
and running after butterflies.

Jaynie's daddy stopped talking
and her sister's got scared.
Jaynie played the mommy
'cause Mommy wasn't there.

Jayne grew up so damn fast,
she shut the world from outside her head.
She didn't ever smile
and she wished that she was dead.

Jaynie told me one night
that she was scared and wanted out.
I realized then that she'd grown up,
and changed, without a doubt.

Jaynie grabbed a bullet,
kissed herself goodnight.
Jaynie's dead and it's my fault..
I could have saved her life.
