Penny

Fractured glass and crimson stains
Stale old dust and window panes
Dying fire and ember ash
Hushed sobs and stinging gash

Steps soften on creaky floor
Thunder threats those tears to pour
Oak attic, trickle and seep
Outside whistling willows weep

A disdained lass, so dreary
On the floor sprawled and weary
Shattered fragments, a picture frame
Broken shards, without a name

A past worth reminiscent
So perfect, her innocence
Emerald eyes and child-like flair
Waltz the world, with her feet bare

Caught the eyes - one too many
A charming lad, smiled pretty
A gaze, one wink - a hasty bow
Grabbed his hands, left in a lull

Their escapade - a facade
Quarters of a royal bard
Passionate love-making so wild
Sudden bitter rush of bile

Lies, deception all again
Standing there, upon the rain
Fizzed-out flame, forgotten fire
She was, no more, his desire

The world crumbled, her love died
Those hundred days, that she had cried
Falling fast, into the end
Someone suddenly grabbed her hand

A jolt, awake - so cold
A face-barren somewhat old
Kindly smile and woven quilt
He wiped away the tears and filth

The warmth, she felt, beyond grace
Fatigue reign upon her gaze
Nestled, into him, she lay
She found solace that day

He wet her lips, parched - broken
Yet not a word was spoken
The sanctuary she had found
Her soul bloodied yet unbound

Nurturing her back to health
A simple man with little wealth
The richness she'd found within
Peace, serenity - free from sin

He moved her heart with russet eyes
The things they shared - without the lies
Soon he learned to love her too
Just like how I fell for you
