Fallen Soldiers

by Gasttlee   May 24, 2009

Good, blessed souls rest in peace
knowing full and well
others live on
to continue their work.

The blood of hatred
runs cold and rampant
digging innocent graves
as well as their own.

Their gifts
inspire our strives
and fulfill our every need.

Over every hill,
up every sky
flies angels of mercy
and unbeatable power.

They give their lives
only to live forever
and encourage us down the road.

Their undivided presence
always keeps us whole.

Every move they take
will touch us
and renew our spirits.

The more they reach out to us,
the more force we have.

We step up
fulfilling our purpose
and their influence
with all our strength.

The poem was quite a piece though not unique as you must well know. As unfortunately the true soldier is one who volunteers to fight and makes it his life work. The true heroes are those who are enlisted or dragged or conscripted to support their countries and go about their fight till it is over doing a task thankless as killing is a thing most of us frown on. Yet there are always those people, countries and armies that think they know better and try to twist bend or turn those who will not toe the line. So we should look on our soldiers with respect not praise as the job they do though makes them heroes if they achieve the unthinkable and live to love and fight another day for us. Among them like us their have been many who were poets the list is endless, Brook, Owen, Sassoon, Kipling all like me British. Many gave their live for their countries and were in deed heroes, what a waste of talent their generations lost in the 1st W.W. There were poets killed in the 2nd W.W, Burma, the Pacific, Vietnam, and now recently in the Falklands, Bosnia, the Gulf War and Afghanistan. It was nice to read a poem that mentions the soldiers who do a job yet get pid little for putting their lives on the line daily and written with so much passion. Ray S 5/5

This is a very emotional piece and its written very well. The second stanza in my eyes is more powerful than all the rest. Excellent work 5/5

Oh! I liked this piece a lot! :] It kept a steady pace, and read solid throughout, even without the help of rhyme and set form. It's so good to read an uplifting poem about those brave soldiers who have fought and died for what they believe in. This touched my heart and put a smile on my face.

    "The blood of hatred
    runs cold and rampant
    digging innocent graves
    as well as their own."
^This stanza really struck me. Your word choice was right on, nothing fancy -- just plain and powerful. Dark, sad, true..

    "Their undivided presence
    always keeps us whole."
^Also really liked this bit, especially 'undivided presence.' I haven't read those two words back to back like that before, and I quite like it. Short but intense.

Overall a really nice poem. :] Full of encouragement and hope. They didn't die in vain, and we should honor their remembrance.

    Awesome, keep it up!

I personally prefer rhyming poems, but this one was great. I like the idea of the poem and it's very original. Not something a lot of people write about, that I know of, anyway. loll It's very unique. Great write, great read. 5/5. (:
