Behind Closed Doors

by Hopelessly Devoted to You   May 25, 2009

She has a laugh each day,
her face, filled with delight,
you can see this can't you,
her smile lights up the sky.

But at the very second,
you leave her to herself,
her eyes will turn dead cold,
and her smile, it will melt.

For what lies within her,
is a sadness that consumes,
it eats her lost heart away,
like taking the sun from June.

She holds back her tears,
tells herself to be strong,
takes a deep breath in,
and just keeps trying to hold on.

You will all be fooled,
by the act that she displays,
as she dies inside,
a little more each day.

Behind these closed doors,
lies this girl, so dead,
still trying to fix herself,
where she once had bled.

*This waa my favorite stanza. I can relate to this poem and I love how you tell your story. You weren't afraid to tell us all of the sad details...I admire that. This was such an emotional piece. Very nice work. Nik*

This was an exceptionally well written poem. Straight forward, expressing something many of us today feel, and thus can relate to. This is a great poem, you have a really great way with words. I especially love how you just spelled it out, something different from the exotic metaphors of usual poems. 5/5 Absolutely excellent.
