Angel's Wings And Sad Lullabies

by Hallo A Lilium   May 30, 2009

Held in arms so cold and lacking of feeling,
Devoid of the emotions that I crave...
Lost in the silence of the forever dead-
Softly I whisper words that caress my body's limbs.

You smile so much like the devil that reigns beneath...
Endlessly looking at me with the lust of pure hatred,
Knowing not that my secrets could slaughter you dead-
I'd bury you with the ashes of the long ago forgotten.

Beautiful angels that sang songs to your lost soul-
Wearing tears that they succumbed to in their sleep,
Moment's pass by when they praise you with lullabies...
You smile evilly and send their wings back to heaven's doors.

Trepidation that kills the lovely eyes of the innocent and pure;
They are empty inside without a thing to care for or to love...
Weeping was a long ago release but now brings no peace,
Damaged hearts that you destroyed after all these painful years.

Master of vengeance and the soldier of unrelenting death,
Casually knocking down the weak and all those who cry out...
A demon that deserves to die without a single image to spare;
Your day will arrive shortly and when it does, I'll be there.

    "Held in arms so cold and lacking of feeling,
    Devoid of the emotions that I crave...
    Lost in the silence of the forever dead-
    Softly I whisper words that caress my body's limbs."

    Great opening with a flawless free-verse flow that is mysterious yet revealing

    "You smile so much like the devil that reigns beneath...
    Endlessly looking at me with the lust of pure hatred,
    Knowing not that my secrets could slaughter you dead-
    I'd bury you with the ashes of the long ago forgotten."

    This one is a little more personal beginning with the pronoun you gives me the sense I am reading about a certain person

    "Beautiful angels that sang songs to your lost soul-
    Wearing tears that they succumbed to in their sleep,
    Moment's pass by when they praise you with lullabies...
    You smile evilly and send their wings back to heaven's doors."

    Sad yet beautiful imagery

    "Trepidation that kills the lovely eyes of the innocent and pure;
    They are empty inside without a thing to care for or to love...
    Weeping was a long ago release but now brings no peace,
    Damaged hearts that you destroyed after all these painful years."

    I feel the emotion building and wonderfully transgressing even further into the spiritual realm

    "Master of vengeance and the soldier of unrelenting death,
    Casually knocking down the weak and all those who cry out...
    A demon that deserves to die without a single image to spare;
    Your day will arrive shortly and when it does, I'll be there."

    This poem climaxes with faith in pure justice only slightly tainted by vengeance
    And overall I feel this poem stand out as one of the better poems I have read in a while

    To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what I want to say about this piece. I sometimes tend to have a negative bias towards poems that are very wordy. By that I don't mean that you use too extravagant, "smart" sounding words. I actually meant that I feel there's [too many] words.

    I often feel that this makes something that's supposed to read like poetry sound far more like a story. Now sometimes this can be good, but what are poems if not something in which to tell a story? But it reads more like a novel (to me, at least) than it does a poem.

    I do however love the dark theme throughout. You brought pieces of this genre to each stanza without overdoing it.

    "A demon that deserves to die without a single image to spare;
    Your day will arrive shortly and when it does, I'll be there."

    ^ I loved this ending. It was powerful and perfect.
