Ride Upon The Moon~Retourne

by Poet on the Piano   May 31, 2009

You deeply yearn just for a night,
To have reality vanish,
Where anything is possible,
Your only wish is my command.

To have reality vanish,
What an obstacle to pass by,
The real trick is to close your eyes,
Let the surroundings disappear.

Where anything is possible,
Even the most outrageous thoughts,
Like sliding down the crescent moon,
A slippery surface so vast.

Your only wish is my command,
Go ahead, imagine, hope, dream,
Smiling as you stare to the end,
Suit all needs, ride upon the moon.

A Retourne is a French poetry form that consists of four quatrains (four-line stanzas), with each line having eight syllables. The trick is though that the first stanza's second line must also be the second stanza's first line, the first stanza's third line is the third stanza's first, and the first stanza's fourth line is the fourth stanza's first. Retournes can but do not have to rhyme.
