You came into my life many years ago,
I was a child with directions I didn't know
I saw you and I knew
I would always love those eyes of blue
Thinking back I wonder if you knew
How much I wanted to be near you
I can tell you those feelings I once had
A schoolgirl crush on a young lad
Soon this would turn into more than a passing note
As soon that dance fast approached
I stood in the hall waiting for you
As nervous as I could be I wondered if you were too
And then you were there
Oh how I was scared
And as quick as wink
The first kiss oh how my heart did sink
It scared us both
And a way we did run
The years would pass
And our paths would soon cross again
And soon the seeds of a friendship grew
This beginning was wonderful and new
You went away to embark on a new journey in life
Off I went to become a new wife.
Later our paths would soon again meet
This time I had a young child at my feet
You were afraid of me as you always were
And the mixed feelings, I was so unsure
And once again we would drift away
In search of a new and prosperous day
Time passed more
And different worlds we did tour
Now, marriages and divorces here we are
We've grown older and with many of a scar
Have we learned enough through our successes and fails?
So that together we can take those lessons and sail?
Each of us wanting to be happy and free
Is it now our turn together to be?
Time will only tell
And let's hope life will serve us well
Because, I know at the end of my life
No matter together or apart
If in your world a friend or lover I will be
There is only one promise you need to give me
All I can ask from the bottom of my heart
