Will You Be There?

by Krista   Jun 9, 2009

Dear Dad,

It's been awhile now, have you got my messages?
Have you bothered to pay any attention at all?
Will you be there for my sixteenth birthday,
to see your little girl growing up all too fast?
Will you be there after my first break-up,
there to hold me and tell me it'll be okay?

Will you be there to see me graduate,
walking across the stage with a smile?
What about when I finally get engaged,
will you share my infinite joy with me?
When I'm all dressed in white, flowers in hand,
will you be there to walk me down the aisle,
to say good-bye to your oldest daughter?

When I graduate, get married, give birth to your first grand-child...

Will you be there?

Love,
Your daughter.

This is one of those poems that really grabs the reader and tugs at their heart as they read because of how much you can hear the author writing this and the emotion in their words and how they truly feel.

I really enjoyed this piece, and it takes a lot to write something so personal and close to your heart.. but I really thought you did a great job at this, the end result came out nicely.

I must comment on the ending, it was perfect.. a simple 'Will you be there?'

    Well done Krista

Interesting piece. I think that this one speaks to a lot of people because it's becoming more and more common. How a father could abandon his child I'm not sure.

I really felt that this was more of a short memior then a poem though, the structure made me feel as though you were writing an actual letter(perhaps you did) and then just put up on here.

I liked the poem and the message but felt that it could have benefited from having a different structure and style applied to it.

Aww...sweety this was such a heartfelt poem. I love how personal this was. If I were you dad I'dbe crying like a big baby. I love how you aren't screaming at him and making him feel guilty...you're just plainly saying he dad will you be here. I think this is your best poem. I loved reading it. Keep it up hun :) Nik
