Mountain Nights

by Anna La Fleur   Jun 11, 2009

Hills and mountains rolling in every direction.
all growing thick beards of fragrant green pine
brightly glistening with touches of snow scattered on the ground.
endless visions of gray-brown trunks and bright green needles
reaching into the low hanging clouds.
fluffy whitish gray touched with misted blue and speckled silver tints.
kissing the upward reach of the land,
perfectly melding together the majority of natures elements.
barely freckled with the touch of man.
farmhouses, trailers, barns.
small settlements of close families living in the breathtaking beauty
of the gods hands.
deep valleys and mountain tops
blend together with farms and roads.
a small bubbling creek whispers to the neighboring wildlife
"good morning friend, merry meet and blessed be and merry part again"
and then the sun sets.
good night earth, sweet dreams and visions for you this night.
visions of dancing stars reaching from afar.
constellations shouting "look here! see our beauty!"
finally, a taste of why they were named.
pictures drawn in specks of light.
spinning and falling onto sweet rich grass
wet with mountain rain and dew.
gazing into the darkness
broken gracefully with starlight freckles.
tears rolling down my face
to gaze upon such sights
beyond the descriptions of such places.
deep rich brown, misted with golden grass and snow
gracefully dancing trees partnered with the cool mountain wind
such beauty, such breathtaking wonder
and yet, no one with whom to share my wonder.
i wipe the tear from my cheek,
pull my blanket tighter to keep out the oncoming shiver.
the door creaks closed as i flick the porch light on
blocking out the stars...
tomorrow returning...
a sigh escapes my lips as i lay on the pillow
drifting off into a steady sleep
to memory
thick warm fur brushes my arm as i drift away
good night friend, sweet dreams and visions for you this night.
and many nights to follow.

That was breath taking! Your discriptions were so well thought out. The flow was beautiful throughout the poem. So peaceful, so wonderful, 5/5!
