Memorial Day

by Hey Brittknee   Jun 24, 2009

Purple flowers lie upon
A cold and heartless grave
A soldier’s body lies there
And the life of which he gave
A token of our gratitude
A symbol yet so small
Purple flowers in the grass
And still the flags stand tall

A crowd salutes the monument
Another memorial day
A thousand thanks would not be enough
They deserve more than we can say
Because our flag still stands for freedom
No matter how tattered or torn
But for every great man now gone
Another great hero is born
