Nephi

by Michael D Nalley   Jul 1, 2009

The Mormon prophet founder of Nephites
persecuted by the authorities of Jewish Rites
many an Apostasy would deny he existed
could historical truth have gotten twisted?

Lehi prayed with all of his heart in behalf of his people
Prophetic prayer more powerful than any temple or steeple
From pillars of fire came the solemn word of the Lord
That the fallen Jerusalem should perish by the sword

Blessed art thou Nephi for thou hast sought me with lowliness of heart
Those that do not know me in this way are not welcome and must depart
The leader of thine enemies is defiant and I have delivered to you this man
Behold the Lord slayeth the wicked thus the prophet must smite Laban

And so it came to pass recorded on the plates of brass
Yet the trials of the prophets had just begun alas
Lehi and Nephi remained obedient and faithful nevertheless
Even though it would mean the family was lead to wilderness

Blood of Laban has not the mark of original sin or of Cain
Without a head does the entity of evil darkness yet remain?
It has been written by prophecy long before Gethsemane
That the messiah would sweat blood beneath the olive tree

Though man would destroy the temple in Jerusalem with sin
The Son of man by the grace of the Father would restore it again
As man gave names to the animals and Adam took a wife
All of the saints will surely eat of the fruit of the tree of life

The words of my father for as many that heeded them had fallen away
As in a dream He does redeem and all will be judged on the last day
My own brethren bound me and left me to be eaten by wild beast
Through my prayer their hearts would soften for heaven's feast

And so it came to pass recorded on the plates of brass
Yet the trials of the prophets had just begun alas
Lehi and Nephi remained obedient and faithful nevertheless
Even though it would mean the family was lead to wilderness

Wow. Such a hard topic to write about, I could never have done it. This was really great, though, and I think I'll share it with my family. The thing I like is that you're making a scripture story into a poem and it really keeps attention better and is more interesting. And I also liked the repitition of the last line. Ah, if only I could be more like Nephi. Great job with this. :)
