But Then... You know... - Stanlee

by Stanlee   Jul 2, 2009

I told her I liked her
And would give her everything she ever needed
"But then, you know," she said,
"Our relationship will never be completed."

She cared for me truly
And wanted to be with me
"But then, you know," she always added,
"You and me, we can never be."

She longed to be in my arms
And I wanted to hold her near
"But then, you know," she crooned,
"This harsh, cruel world, I fear."

Odes I wrote for her
And sang many a songs
"But then, you know," She whispered
"To whom my heart belongs."

Despite all odds
Our love for each other did grow.
"But then, you know,
Sometimes... you never know."

Aw, I love this poem! It's very original! I love the repetition of the poem's title "But then, you know" in each stanza... it completes it like a story and it really makes it more appealing... I especially loved how you ended it.. :
    "Despite all odds
Our love for each other did grow.
    "But then, you know,
    Sometimes... you never know."
    Great job!
