Unrecognized

I have always been there
Even as a ghost in the back drop
Remember the days when we were joined at each other's side?
When innocence met recalcitrant
Worlds collided

The sun's rays were blocked by the moon
It put the stars behind and urges forward
The telephone never rings, stays silent in time
And sleepless nights are becoming more frequent
Insomnia is wondrous

I listened to every story
Acted on intuition instead of instinct
Made my mistakes all the while
I still had someone very special to get me by
Now it's dark

The room remains uncleaned
Though the door is shutting positivity out
Our old pictures are scattered across the floor
All our conversations running around my mind
I can't think

I put your life before mine
Tried everything I could do to keep you safe
I was disciplined and scolded
Just for being a caring friend
How did that work?

I'm still watching our videos
Staring at my phone, waiting for you
It'll never light up
She's in your view now
But why?

After all that I've done for you
I've been through Hell and back
Still she's the only one on your mind now
Have you forgotten me, your best friend?
What happened?
