The American Dream

by A Former Outcast   Jul 5, 2009

It lies behind a smiling face,
It barely conceals the hate.
Its allies are quite few in number,
And all tied to its fate.

It hovers on the edge of death,
It's decaying as we speak.
It's time on this world is over with,
It's long since reached its peak.

America, a dying wretch,
A place of greed and sin.
Grey with death, but living still,
The maggots are within.

Religion is worthless anymore,
Culture is dead and gone.
Politics are pointless games,
There is no right, just wrong.

The bastions of purity have run dry,
There is nowhere left to turn.
Celebrities are just a cruel joke,
There is nothing left to learn.

People think there's one thing left,
And that's the American Dream.
This one thing, the hollowest of all,
Is beyond all attempts to redeem.

Our country is nothing more than a joke,
That the rest of the world pokes fun at.
While we struggle at home to save our own lives,
The world uses us as its doormat.

So ends our legacy, which we built,
Destroyed by our own lack of guilt.
Goodnight America, we've had some fun,
But now we've reached the end of our run.
