Eternal Heart

by David ODonnell   Jul 13, 2009

Until too late is gathering eyes
In whimpered dreams and deadening cries
Those wounded souls from distant pasts
Their cries and moans will always last

Brave the night alone in rain
Sleeping not, awake again
That hollow shell should feel at ease
Only love that my heart appease

Begging softly towards the night
Bring them back with all your might
I can not sleep or wake these days
Since they were gone my minds a maze

A quickened beat upon my heart
When I see my past begin and depart
There they roam my former lover
Enjoying live but with another

I clench my pain into my fist
This rising fury I must resist
I feel my hand begin to shake
The earth below that starts to quake

Then at last my hand is still
But now another hand I feel
Much more smaller and quite fragile
I stand then wondering for awhile

This hand belongs to a child I know
Who resembles the one I can't let go
But now my hand begins to shut
A wholesome feeling inside my gut

I take this child within my arms
And keep her safe from all the harms
Now my heart is just for her
No other girl that I prefer

She will grow in time and learn
That pursuing love will strike and burn
But she will know every day I love her
For she is my child and I her farther
