Sleep

by Scott E Buttross   Jun 14, 2004

Sleep

I shouted her name,
But no-one came.
Startled by my own inflection
I opened my eyes.
It was another dream.
One of many that torment me now.

Dreams bring back
Memories forgotten.
I try to find reason in these thoughts.
Are they linked to the present,
Could they be a message
For answers I once sought.

Still they shock me with surprise
Laying a bullet between my eyes
- they were closed.
What triggered it,
I loaded it long ago.
