Bigot

by Nicko   Jul 28, 2009

A closed door will only ever reflect
Forlorn light shining upon peeling paint
Cast in any colour
The brightest of bright
The dullest of grey
Yet it sheds no light on what you hide
Are you afraid?

So what if I knock
Knock out loud
Will you listen?
Shall it fall upon deaf ears
A muffled sigh
Is that all that's heard?
Insistent scratch's upon your chalkboard?
An echo to your unbelief's?

But what of the keyhole I ask
Arh there we have an enigma
A place for peeking or to hold a key
A key to lock and sanctify
Hiding all that's inside
Perhaps an unsightly view
Your righteousness
Your wronglyness
A song to the gift of your heart
A myriad of things, people!

Yet the key of all keys
Is the key to your open mind?
Why twist it shut so
I ask again
Are you afraid?

Just wow. This took my breathe away because the meaning behind it and the whole message is all true.

We are keepers' of our own minds and we lock everything in it, the good, the bad and the ugly. We hide truths as we are all afraid and think its because we will be judged no matter what we do.

I like how in your poem you question the inflexible mind that some people have. Why are they not open to other peoples' views? And u answered it perfectly...because they are afraid someone might change them.

Hi Nicko that was an interesting poem, a different take on the human condition with some interesting questions along the way, well done and well written
