A Love That Cannot Be

by Poetic Memories   Jul 29, 2009

I sit in a palace,
a palace of gray.
I sit in a palace,
a palace I should not stray.

Trapped in a kingdom,
a kingdom of pain.
Trapped in a kingdom,
a kingdom I cannot remain.

I visit a man,
a man who's a slave.
I visit a man,
a man I wish to save.

He talks to me lovingly,
and lovingly he cares.
He talks to me lovingly,
and lovingly we share tears.

I give him an image,
an image of him and me.
I give him an image,
an image to be set free.

He declines the offer,
an offer so great.
He declines the offer,
an offer that cannot wait.

This man that I love,
he does not see.
This man that I love,
he needs to flee.

That love I have for him,
he does not share
That love I have for him,
I cannot bear.

I have to leave,
leave far, far away.
I have to leave,
leave before I decay.
