Dreaming

by flutterflies   Aug 2, 2009

A castle and a prince,
White ponies and flowers,
A peaceful lake
With wonderful white swans
And water lilies.
A starry night,
A moon so bright,
A happy ever after,
This is her dream tonight.

Oh sweet, cruel reality,
If only she knew,
The hate and the pain,
The black and red,
The fire burning,
The wars raging,
And the lives ending,
The screaming and the crying,
Children slowly dying.

A burnt out hut and corpse,
Dead bodies and shrapnel,
A red river runs,
Full of sorrow and of loss,
A starry night,
A moon so bright,
Somewhere a woman is crying
Dreaming of dying tonight.

Elsewhere a little girl
Who believes in magic,
Is wishing upon a star,
Hoping for the future.
A starry night,
A moon so bright,
Dreaming of being rescued,
By a handsome prince tonight.

So let her dream
And hope, and wish,
Don’t tell her that
No such prince exists,
Let her believe.
A starry night,
A moon so bright,
Don’t wake little girl,
From your dream tonight.
