Each Usige

by Melpomene   Aug 2, 2009

Sometimes,
in the shadow world
I am reminded;
of the night when
our sky decayed,
Paralyzing me
as an
aquaphobic.

When,
charcoal hearts eroded,
I was seduced by thy bait.
Like Snow white to her apple
there was no escape.

Mephistophelean.

He,
reminded me of
a Kelpie -and
lured me with his pain.
A shape shifter in
camouflage;
to conceal
diabolical taste.

It was;
Death by moonlight.

Past Nox did I drown;
Consumed by misery.
Wishing I'd observed
the seaweed
which viciously
strangled me.

It was;
death by sea.
With venom
upon his lips,
an Ophidian kiss
which froze
my fingertips.

-Hell hath no fury,
like a woman scorned-

Note: "Kelpie" not to be confused with the type of dog breed. Kelpies are shape-shifting water horses from folklore of Scotland and Ireland known as Kelpie, or Each Usige. Pronounced ['ech ooshskya'] The kelpie usually appears standing near a river or stream looking like a beautiful pony. It appears to be lost and tame luring an unwary traveler to mount it, then making a sound like thunder the kelpie dives into deep water and drowns the unfortunate rider who is magically stuck to its back. Kelpies can assume human form, to seduce a human lover. To identify a kelpie look for a piece of seaweed entwined in hair. Although the more dangerous version of the Kelpie being the Each usige is not content with drowning its victims once it dives in the river it tears the victim apart devouring the entire body except for the liver.

    'I am reminded;

    `I dont think you need a semi colon after reminded, having that pause there kind of threw me off.. I think it would flow better without it. Loved 'our sky decayed' I assume youre talking about love here?

    'When,
    charcoal hearts eroded,
    I was seduced by thy bait.'
    `Very well done! 'Charcoal hearts eroded' - excellent imagery, very unique and well said! Seduced by thy bait makes me think that this person lured you in by their sweet words, as many do and then get hurt in the end.

    'It was;
    death by sea.
    With venom
    upon his lips,
    an Ophidian kiss
    which froze
    my fingertips. '
    `Very strong ending... powerful word choice emphasizing the huge effect this made on you. I can feel the emotions you feel as I read this.

    Great write. :]

    Though I loved this entire piece (as I do with all your poetry) this part was my fav. I loved it !

    I always learn something when reading your poetry Mel. Whether it be a new word or something like the Kelpie the shape-shifting water horses.
