One step ahead?

Life has its ups, and its downs
Seems like you are always fighting it all
And when you think you are one step ahead
You come across the pebble that makes you fall

You start to think why keep on trying
You wonder if its worth the tears
Why try and hide the loneliness
That you have felt for so many years

Then you get a glance of it
The light that you are looking for
You follow the tunnel in deeper into the mist
Not knowing what is in store

The pitiful excuse to keep on trying
The lie that hope becomes
A ballad of sorrow, a musical of pain
Starring "you", the victim

You read your lines as told
You act out the perfect part
But what do these written words mean
If they don't come from the heart

Feeling nothing for the sake of feeling
Just going with the flow
Wishing you were different
But knowing it wont be so

So what keeps you walking
That straight line laid out for you?
The chance that things could change
That one day the lies might come true?

Maybe its because that all thats left
There isn't anything else to do
Just pretend that you care
Maybe show interest to one or two

Try to enjoy that fine line
Between the pleasure and the pain
Pretend for chances sake
Or for fear of keeping sane

Take short deep breaths and keep on walking
Don't look back at all
Remember that the tiniest of pebbles
Can cause the greatest of falls
