Summer, To Me, Is This

by silvershoes   Aug 4, 2009

Clear beads cloud my brow
As I roll my head back on my neck
Between arched shoulders
Propped up on wrists that ache
My hair blows in the mellow wind
And licks the muscles of my back
My eyes are closed and I see red
The sun burning through my eyelids
Red then suddenly black and I look
To see a lone cloud pass over the sky
I smile peacefully and laugh
Then close my eyes just in time

A crashing of waves against rocks
The squawking of seagulls
The laughter of children
The dull thud of a foot hitting a beach ball
The rattle of ice in a pineapple shake
The sound of my lover whispering

The sensation of sand drizzled on my belly
The giggle that pours from my lips
The soft kisses and loving sounds
The tickle upon my bare skin
Of a sand crab that scurries
The touch of my salt coated skin
The softness of my salt coated hair

Summer reminds me of life's sweet humor
Of how winter never laughs
Summer reminds me that it never lasts
That even this shall pass
