You Are Gone, But I have Not Lost You

by Loverinpeace   Aug 4, 2009

I watched you get shot by a man with a gun
I held you in my arms and watched the blood run
It was hard to see, it was a dark place
But I could see the tears run down your face
Even though it was gray and black
I could see you smile and I smiled back
You pulled me close so I could hear
Sweet words you whispered in my ear
"Not even death shall do us part."
"Take this gift, I give you my heart."
I cried more tears than there is water in a shower
And more came every second, minute, and hour
"Don't cry. I will be with you wherever you go."
I let you slip away from me, and it seemed so slow
I knew I had no choice, I had to let you leave
Your tears still wet on my sleeve
I looked up to the sky, and screamed out your name
Knowing that nothing would ever be the same
You are gone, but I have not lost you, we are not apart
For here you are, right here in my heart
I close your eyes and look back at life
That day I proposed to you, and you became my wife
That day when we said "Till death do us part."
But like you said, not even then shall we be apart
Now i look at you and I smile
And i know that with you, I lived a life worth wild
