The Senses Fill

by Ray Smallshaw   Aug 6, 2009

Those moments caught by my eyes like,

A glorious sunset or fabulous sunrise,
A fresh picked rose or a smile of surprise,
Babies in arms with that look on their face,
Or
A smiling happy child playing at pace.

The sound of a heart aching melody like,

A superb orchestra's tune,
The howl of a wolf that's mad at the moon,
The bark of our dogs that I hear everyday
Or
That laughter you give that makes me want to play.

The caresses of my hand like,

A stroke of your beautiful face,
That pat on your shoulder that sets my heart apace,
The touching pleasure of our dog's fur,
Or
The wonderful feel of your silky black hair.

Those lip smacking tastes like,

The tang of hot chestnuts we ate one late night,
Caviar and vodka combined to delight,
The burst on the tongue of flavours that kill,
Or
Oh! Chocolate what a mouth watering thrill.

The flooding smells of life like,

That of fresh baked bread coming from a shop,
The perfume that's you it can make my heart stop,
A field of flowers whose smell makes me sneeze,
Or
Those wild aromas caught on a summer breeze.

My senses were filled by much more than above,
When you told me you loved me and gave me your
Love.

Your words made all the senses come to life. I could almost smell the things you described. What a wonderful way to write about love. True love does fill the senses. Well done.

Ray... I loved reading this... A wonderful poem so beautifully expressed. I loved how you brought the senses into this poem of love, and how it ended...
" My senses were filled by much more than above,
When you told me you loved me and gave me your
    Love. "

A most descriptive write... and a very enjoyable read! I thought it was excellent! ... (It filled my senses! )

    Ray,

Indeed: so many beautiful sensations come to us through our senses..you said it so well.
I love the smell of freshly mowed grass most of all, it makes me feel so happy and alive.

Good job on this, I think you covered all bases with it and the ending was great:)

    *hugs*

Your work is amazing as always.

"That of fresh baked bread coming from a shop,
The perfume that's you it can make my heart stop,
A field of flowers whose smell makes me sneeze,
    Or
Those wild aromas caught on a summer breeze."

We relate to sights as memories or sounds but smell is a more powerful sense then any.
You are a creative writer that I am so glad I discovered your works

My favorite memory, waking to the smell of coffee in my grandmas house. It still comforts me to this day

    Awesome job
