Run

by Ed or Ian Henderson   Aug 6, 2009

I took a different route tonight,
But the sweat didn't taste so sweet.
I just couldn't get the feeling right.
I cannot burn without your heat.

I hurt the earth I trod beneath my soles,
As with frustration I was spurred.
I just don't have any other worthy goals.
Deep in my head my heartbeat's heard.

I hit Kilburn Road with my lungs aflame,
This punishment I feel stems other fire.
But there's no reward, it's just not the same.
This is not how I intended to tire.

I press on. I clench teeth. Another mile.
Sepultura thunder metal in each ear.
I feel I could run to the Emerald Isle,
A welcome distance from where I am here.

Too soon it seems I am back at my door,
Exhausted, a bloodless pain in my heart.
My soul tells me I'm aching for much more.
I'm still waiting for my real life to start.
