As my hair turns grey

by A M   Aug 8, 2009

It is amazing how fast we grew up, how fast time passed by
Within years, a lot of memory accumulates, while others die
We meet people today, and tomorrow, they might be gone
Yet we wonder when will be our turn to sleep under the stones

There's a lot of stuff we wish we had done when we were younger
Like apologizing, sharing and holding back our anger
There's a lot of stuff we hope we will do when we are older
Like forgiving, treating and being a soft shoulder

With age, our health deteriorates and the mind losses control
But when we reach that state, nothing matters at all
We might not recognize our reflection in the mirror anymore
And maybe then, with time, we will get that we can't win this war

Through all those black days, we learned from our mistakes
Through harsh punishments, we realized laws can't break
Through bleeding and crying, we tasted the love pain again
Through intense guilt, we confessed committing a great sin

As my hair turn grey, my identity will still stay
My existence isn't documented in history, I won't lie
But this life is a journey, not the end of the road
So hold up tight my friend, we are in the same boat

The title drew me in and I wasn't disappointed. I like this poem because it says alots about who you are and who others are and that we have all felt guilt etc. I like the flow, stlye, topic and the rhyming scheme. Such a meaningful poem, 5/5. Em
