The Hard Road

by Beautiful Chaos   Aug 11, 2009

Never thought you loved me
Our time was always cold
Never said those words to me
Blamed myself ten fold

I could have been a better daughter
You a better dad
Should have changed the whole damn thing
But worked with what we had

No one showed you how to love
So how could you show me?
Time would come to be our friend
Love would help us see

You loved me with your silent words
Protective acts of war
When I thought I'd gone too far
You loved me even more

Our silence isn't quite as awkward
We've grown over the years
Holding on to what we find
Before life disappears

You, my father, I, your daughter
Love held in between
Confusion turned to understanding
Chaos, to serene

Jenn, I truly love this write...I become tired of trying to decipher through metaphors and over-large words , this says what it means and creates real emotion! A refreshing piece! love it!

It is nice when families can get past their differences and realize what matters most - Love....

As usual, your rhyming isn't forced and the piece flows great. It is realistic and full of emotion. Definetly a piece many can relate to. Nice job!

    This ending is beauty!
When we get older and become parents ourselves we begin to understand the difficult job our own parents had.

Though we were angels weren't we Jenn *winks* ... lol
I still shine my halo every now and then ... lol

Loved the flow in this piece and the words are very touching !

    Wonderful read my friends

Awww this is precious. Sometimes it seems that we just don't see eye to eye with our parents. I love the peacemaking ending of your poem. Very nice.
