Nobody Knows-- Iraq Poem about U.S. Soldiers

by Meghan Sigmon   Aug 15, 2009

Nobody knows what its like carrying an m-16,
Nobody knows how it feels when a helmet is worn
to save your life in the dangers of the foreign,

Nobody knows the grounds you walk,
Nobody knows the codes you talk,
Nobody knows the sights you see
Nobody sees soldiers fleeing from debris
Nobody sees what you see
We only see whats on T.V.

Nobody knows the pressures you feel,
Nobody knows the chill of fear
standing in front of another's frontier,
Nobody knows the sleep you lack
Nobody knows the tears your holding back

Nobody knows the hours you walk
Nobody knows the thunder of shrieks
the alarm clock that awakes you from your precious dreams
Nobody knows the feel of grief
holding the tags of a friend on bended knee

Nobody knows Its tennis shoes to combat boots
Blue jeans and a tee to ACUs and an M-16
Stands a United States Soldier
Ready to fight for the land of the free

My boyfriend is in Iraq right now, he and all the others fighting for this country gave me the inspiration to write this poem. I am so proud of him and I cant wait until he is home. I love him very much.
